Artist: PRIHATMOKO MOKI (Yogyakarta)

"Yogyakarta is currently changing with a fast-paced speed, becoming a developing city, but not as a friendly and convivial anymore for the people who live here. So many problematic issues, like hotels being built everywhere causing depletion of water, no more public space except the malls, the crowded traffic and so on. The way we live is changing as well, to more individual and selfish characters.
Our government now is only interested with investments and corporations. So many slogans and protests about this, including the movement of "Jogja Ora di Dol" (Jogja is not for sell), Jogja Asat (the drought of Jogja), etc.
In my mural series I use the soldiers of Kraton Jogja (Jogja Palace) as a metaphor for the citizens of this city, who in the absence of the King, have become disorientated."

Prihatmoko Moki (b. 1982, Yogyakarta - Indonesia) graduated from ISI Yogyakarta - Indonesia, Printmaking Department Major in 2009. In 2012 together with Malcolm Smith (AU) he founded Krack! Studio based in Yogyakarta, the studio and gallery focusing printmaking. He had residency at Megalo Print Studio at Canberra, Australia in 2015.
